Phaedra Livingstone
PROFESSIONAL SUMMARYPhaedra Livingstone coordinates both the Museum Studies concentration in the Arts and Administration graduate program, and the UO Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies. She is Associate Director, Cultural Diversity & Social Inclusion, in the UO Center for Community Arts and Cultural Policy and an affiliated faculty member of the UO Center for the Study of Women and Society. Her main research areas are museum interpretation and representation issues, museum management and social inclusion, critical (especially feminist) museology, and visitor studies. Her current research focuses on equity and diversity perspectives in museum planning, policy and practice. Dr. Livingstone has worked in and conducted research on all types of museums, since 1990. Prior to joining the University of Oregon, she was Research Coordinator at the Centre for Voluntary Sector Studies, Ryerson University in Toronto. Her training includes a PhD in Curriculum Studies (Museum Learning), a Master of Museum Studies, and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Toronto, as well as a postdoctoral research fellowship with the University of British Columbia. Among her publications are articles in The Journal of Museum Education (USA), Museological Review (UK), Museum Management and Curatorship (Canada), and Museum Management Today International (Japan). She is active in various museum associations and has been a board member for the Museum Education Roundtable of Toronto (1998-2000), the Visitor Studies Association (2001-2003), and Heritage Toronto (2004-2008). UO courses Dr. Livingstone teaches include: Cultural Administration; Museum Education; Museum Theory; Arts & Visual Literacy; The Cultural Museum; and Research Methods. |
